Betsy's Bio

I am an explorer and a maker.  From an early age, I was fascinated with the  abundance to explore in nature and always have felt at home outside in the woods and fields. My observations of how non-humans live, grow, die and decay influence my own artmaking.

I am a Fiber Sculptor and papermaker based in Kansas.  The Flint Hills and prairies are rich sources for my explorations.  Environmental issues surrounding prairie conservation and restoration are part of my research as well as social attitudes toward non-humans.

As a maker, I enjoy the processes involved in creating artworks that combine a variety of materials and techniques.  I explore new methods and have invented a unique loom process to create large-scale paper forms that visually speak of the resilience of nature.
