Core Remains
The Core Remain Series of “artifactual” sculptures appear as remnants of a past existence. These organic remains represent the fragmented natural world as a measure of this disorder of social attitudes toward that which is non-human. The textural paper of the cast sculptures seems to have deteriorated leaving only the inner core, a record of time as decay. This makes visible the function of entropology or the inevitable decline of a system or society in that it represents a measure of disorder.
On closer inspection, the Core Remains Series reveals a ritualistic, hopeful aspect of preservation. The pieces have details such as gold leafing, microbes and seeds that point toward the possibility of reviving a reverence of the human interconnection with the natural world. It is a matter of perception and receptivity to be aware of this bond and to respond in new ways encouraged by enlightened interactivity.
